The vice foreign ministers of Seoul and Tokyo are to meet after South Korea celebrates its Liberation Day on Thursday.
This is according to various Korean media outlets that did not cite a source.
They say the two diplomats will meet in a Southeast Asian nation either on Friday or Saturday, in an effort to discuss pending issues between the two countries.
Seoul's Cho Sei-young is expected to urge Japan to pull back its unfair trade restrictions on Seoul, while Tokyo's Takeo Akiba is likely to urge South Korea to intervene against the Supreme Court's order that Japanese firms must compensate Korea's victims of forced labor.
However Seoul's foreign ministry says it cannot confirm the news.
