Amid rising tensions between Seoul and Tokyo, the top diplomats of the two countries will hold trilateral talks with their Chinese counterpart sometime in August.
South Korea's foreign ministry confirmed a report by Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun, that such a session is in the works but that no detail can be confirmed as of now.
This would be the first time such a meeting takes place since August 2016 in Tokyo.
The paper cited sources that say the intensifying Seoul-Tokyo trade spat and North Korea's denuclearization are issues likely to be on the agenda.
If the meeting does happen, Yomiuri says a bilateral meeting between the foreign ministers can also be expected, in which the dispute stemming from Japan's wartime forced labor is likely to be discussed.
