Iran hopes S. Korea will not join U.S.-led military coalition in Strait of Hormuz

Iran's foreign ministry says... it hopes South Korea will not join a U.S.-led military coalition for maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
That's according to a ministry spokesperson in an interview with Seoul-based Yonhap News Agency... which came after defense talks were held between Seoul and Washington on Friday.
There,... U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper asked for South Korea's cooperation to ensure freedom of navigation in the strait.
This is the first time... the Iranian government has mentioned South Korea regarding the matter,… asking it to take a neutral stance rather than intervening in waters off Iran.
The spokesperson also stressed... that Iran and Korea have enjoyed very good diplomatic relations in the past decades... and do not want ties to become soured.
