Typhoons Lekima and Krosa are moving north,... approaching the waters off Japan and China.
And concerns are that these typhoons could affect South Korea as well... but as of now, impact is expected to be weak.
Kim Mok-yeon reports.
Two powerful typhoons are approaching South Korea's neighbors.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the season's 9th typhoon Lekima is moving fast over the seas northeast of Taipei, and is expected to reach China's Shanghai by Saturday and even Qingdao by Sunday.
While Lekima is likely to hit China over the weekend, another typhoon, named Krosa is also heading north towards Japan.
The 10th typhoon of the season is heading northwest from Guam.
Though its route is unclear because of its slow speed, weather experts from Korea, Japan and the United States expect Typhoon Krosa to move toward the Japanese city of Osaka over the weekend.
The weather in South Korea had been baking hot over the past days, with heat wave warnings issued in many parts of the country.
Scorching conditions are forecast to continue over the weekend, with daytime highs lingering around the mid 30 degrees range.
It's expected to cool down by Monday with rain forecast, especially in the southern regions, as the typhoons get closer.
South Korea's weather agency says it's still too early to predict whether the typhoons will affect Korea, but since they are forecast to linger near neighboring countries, precautions should still be taken.
