Chief of Aichi Triennale organizing committee says requests to remove Peace Statue "unconstitutional"
Following the withdrawal of the Peace Statue,... a statue representing Korean "comfort women" from the Aichi Triennale,... the head of the organizing committee has admitted the decision was made for the sake of public safety rather than pressure from the Japanese government.
Hideaki Omura, the governor of Aichi Prefecture and head of the committee, is unhappy how some tried to halt the exhibition, calling it "censorship" and a breach of Japan's Constitution.
He also lashed out against a request made by Nagoya Mayor Takashi Kawamura to remove the statue as "unconstitutional,"... referring to Japan's constitutional ban on censorship.
