U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says he hopes South Korea and Japan will "together, themselves" find a path forward on the trade issue.
His remarks came Thursday during a joint press conference with Thailand's Foreign Minister after their bilateral talks in Bangkok.
Pompeo said Seoul and Tokyo are important U.S. allies, adding he will meet his South Korean and Japanese counterparts on Friday.
He's slated to sit down with Kang Kyung-wha and Taro Kono separately, followed by three-way talks on Friday afternoon.
On North Korea, Pompeo said the U.S. is ready to continue diplomacy with the regime.
And despite not being able to meet with North Korean officials while in Bangkok, Pompeo said he's optimistic working-level talks will resume soon.
