S. Korean delegation's meeting with high-ranking member of Japan's ruling party called off
  • 5 years ago
A meeting between a parliamentary delegation from South Korea and a senior member of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party in Tokyo has been cancelled.
The lawmakers were due to sit down with Toshihiro Nikai,... who has close ties with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe,... but the Japanese side scrapped the talks, citing an urgent security meeting.
The cancellation comes after they postponed the meeting that was initially set for Wednesday.
These would've been key talks for South Korea,... as Tokyo is poised to remove Seoul from its trade 'whitelist.'
The South Korean side has called the cancelation a diplomatic discourtesy.
Japanese lawmakers from a related bilateral parliamentarians' union apologized for the move.
