CAG report on direct taxes raises red flag over persistent irregularities in assessment of cases

The Comptroller and Auditor General's (CAGs) report on direct taxes for the fiscal year 2018 was tabled in parliament today. The report raises a red flag over irregularities in assessment of corporate and direct tax cases. It also says that the recurrence of such irregularities points to structural weaknesses and the absence of appropriate institutional mechanisms to address it, reports Sapna Das.
