Puerto Rico's governor Ricardo Rosselló has announced his resignation following more than a week of protests in the US territory.

Footage shows people cheering and waving flags in the streets of San Juan during celebrations yesterday evening (July 24).

Roselló has been at the centre of a scandal over leaked messages that revealed sexist, profane and homophobic comments.

His resignation would take effect on Friday, August 2 and Secretary of Justice Wanda Vázquez will succeed him.
