Claiming sovereignty over South Korea's easternmost island, Dokdo, Japan says it launched its own military aircraft when the Russian aircraft trespassed over the East Sea near Dokdo Island.
Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga made the remark Tuesday,... but did not give details about the flight.
Suga reportedly said the Russian aircraft entered "Japanese territorial waters" and they cannot accept such actions.
To South Korea's response of firing warning shots, Suga said he regrets such a move and Japan warned Seoul's officials not to do it again.
To this, Seoul's foreign affairs ministry said Dokdo island is and has historically always been South Korea's territory, dismissing Japan's protest.
