Children cross overflowing river during evacuations in the Philippines

Footage shows a group of kids trying to cross an overflowing river together in the Philippines to higher ground after their houses were submerged in flood.

The video was taken in Darumawang Ilaya, Lala, Lanao del Norte on July 17.

Public school teacher and disaster risk reduction coordinator Elger Dagatan Cedeno from Darumawang Ilaya took the video as he assisted the children to get to safety. He said: "The crops were damaged because of the water from the river."

Some of the kids gathered wood washing up in the river to use as firewood in evacuation centers.

The tropical storm Falcon (international name Danas) brought flash floods in several towns of Lanao del Norte province after the Maranding river overflowed.

The fash floods affected hundreds of families who were evacuated to halls and gymnasiums.
