Foreign residents in South Korea who miss their health insurance payments at least four times will not be granted visa extensions.
Those who miss up to three payments will only be allowed an extension of six months or less.
The changes will take effect starting next month.
Foreigners who stay in Korea for more than six months are now required to sign up to public health insurance.
Students and skill-training visa holders, however, are exempt until March 2021.
