Rival parties reach tentative deal to hold plenary session to vote on term extension for special parliamentary committees

South Korea's three main parties have reached a tentative deal to hold a plenary session today to vote on extending the terms of special parliamentary committees that expire this month.
The decision was reached during a meeting between National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang and the floor leaders of the three main parties in a bid to end the over 80-day standstill at parliament.
The parties will meet again this afternoon to fine-tune the details of their agreement.
The latest development comes after the main opposition Liberty Korea Party pulled out of a normalization deal reached between rival parties earlier this week,... after failing to get endorsement from all its lawmakers.
The ruling Democratic Party and minor opposition parties, however, were seeking to push ahead with the agendas agreed under the deal, regardless.
