Twitter says it will label tweets from politicians that break its rules
  • 5 years ago
Twitter is putting together a framework by which it will hide certain tweets from political figures that violate platform rules, based upon an assessment of whether the tweets meet public interest.
When a tweet does not appear to meet the public interest, Twitter is going to put a notice hiding the tweet from the public unless they click on it.
This applies to verified accounts of any politician that has at least 100,000 followers.
A cross-functional team at Twitter will determine what tweets should be hidden... and in instances that violate the rules on abuse, harassment and incitement, the politician would be asked to take the tweet down.
There are concerns over whether the censorship can be transparent and unbiased.
