Dalai Lama: Trump 'Lacks Moral Principle'

The Dalai Lama characterized President Trump as a person who “lacks moral principle.”

The Dalai Lama characterized President Trump as a person who "lacks moral principle." In a recent interview with the BBC, he commented: "[Trump's] emotions [are] also a little bit," paused while twisting his finger beside his head, then said, "complicated."  When asked what he thinks of Trump in office, the Dalai Lama replied: "One day he says something, another day he says something."
"But I think [there is a] lack of moral principle," the spiritual leader further noted. "When he became president, he expressed America first. That is wrong. America, they should take the global responsibility."  The Dalai Lama has criticized Trump's nationalist agenda in the past. In 2017, he said in response to a Washington Post reporter's question about the U.S., "Your ancestors really considered the importance of liberty, freedom, democracy, these things. The present president, in the very beginning he mentioned 'America first.' That sounded in my ear not very nice."
