San Francisco bans sales of e-cigarettes
San Francisco has become the first U.S. city to ban sales of electronic cigarettes, after its board of supervisors voted unanimously in favor of a ban on Tuesday.
The ordinance prohibits sales of any e-cigarette that hasn't received FDA approval from manufacturing and distributing such products on city property.
Currently no e-cigarettes have FDA approval.
The ban is aimed at reducing underage use of vapor products as according to federal data, the use of e-cigarettes among teenagers surged 78 percent in 2018.
E-cigarette companies claim the ban will drive former smokers back to regular cigarettes.
