South Korea bans ships that brought in North Korean coal
  • 6 years ago
We start with news that the South Korean government has decided to ban ships that have illegally imported North Korean coal into the nation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it found four ships, including the Shinning Rich and the Jin Long, violated UN Security Council Resolution 2371, which bans North Korea from supplying, selling or transferring coal to other countries.
It also calls for UN member states to prohibit procurement of such material from the North.
However, the South Korean government says it has not found any "reasonable evidence" to detain the ships, the highest punitive measure.
The ministry noted it could not determine whether the ships' crews had willingly engaged in the prohibited activities.
