Jason Kerrison interview at Music Matters Singapore

the AU review sat down with Jason Kerrison at Singapore Music Matters to chat about the challenges of playing to J-Pop crowds with a sweating guitar, releasing music outside the major label cycle and shaking up how he performs.

Playing with a looper pedal is quite a shift from his band background- "I've only been doing it for a couple of years...It's really about trying make sure I don't compromise the songs I've already got and trying to make them sound like a full performance without making it sound like a band, which is nigh on impossible". The format also requires a tighter performance despite the change of form 'I try to play better to avoid the stuff ups repeating' especially with the visual and sonics implications of strapping an Ableton controller to his guitar sometimes in the next 6 months.

His new live format also comes with a new way of releasing music: "I've come out of the major label system where the cycle was release and album every 2 or 3 years...but that didn't work for me so I decided to extract myself out of that and go for releasing an EP every 6 months". From a business standpoint it also works better for him- "I think it's more about realising as an artist and a producer, income is gonna be more about your licensing business than the recording business these days". On the back of these revelations he also has his first Australian tour in July, minus the Ableton controller.
