The Creation Of Us (E8) - Welcome Baby Antler!

After a year filled with planning, pregnancy, training, and waiting… patiently…. Jenilee and Aydian have welcomed their adorable, precious Antler into the world! In this episode of The Creation Of Us, we follow the twists and turns of their story of how Antler was born, and how Jenilee and Aydian are adjusting to being a new family of three.
The plan was always to deliver the baby at the birthing center where they had taken classes, where their midwife was based, and after months of routine visits, the place that had become Jenilee’s safe space. But the first wrinkle in the schedule was that Antler was late. Jenilee did not go into labor until the night of October 31st, a long, nerve wracking week after she was due.
Every labor is its own unique journey and the parents and medical team must be ready for anything unexpected. While Jenilee had arrived safely and her labor had started, as time passed and the team observed her progress, there were some causes for concern. After 15 hours of labor, Jenilee’s midwife advised the couple that they should transfer to the hospital. “When we were told that we had to make the transition from the birthing center to the hospital, for me, it was tough,” Aydian recalled. “I knew our wishes and our ideal birth did not involve the hospital.”
As it turned out, the transfer was a big help. Jenilee was taken care of immediately and after a final 4 hours of labor, a happy and healthy Antler arrived to everyone’s relief and joy. A standard 24 hours of hospital observation was required, but the happy couple and their newborn were soon headed home. “The moment we really became a family was stepping through that door,” Aydian said with a smile. “It was time for Jenilee and I to become real parents and for us to be a family. It was a really magical moment.”
Jenilee is thrilled to be home, learning more every day about her baby and how being parents is adding richness to their relationship. “It has brought Aydian and I closer together, seeing each other in a different kind of strength that we haven’t witnessed in each other before,” she explains.
