Seoul's trade minister Yoo Myung-hee is going to Washington next week to urge the Trump administration to not levy tariffs on Korean cars.
The U.S. government is reviewing hefty new tariffs on auto imports, citing threats to national security.
President Trump is due to make a final decision by the end of next week.
Minister Yoo has said Korea should be exempt from those tariffs because they would violate the two countries' free trade pact.
