The Royal Air Force was formed on 1st April 1918 when the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) were amalgamated. It is the oldest independent air force in the world.
Many thousands of men and women of the RAF have lost their lives in the service of their country and many have been wounded and scarred for life. Families from the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and our allies who have served with the RAF have paid the ultimate price for our liberty. ‘Welcome Home’ is one services man’s tribute to the ‘few’ that continue to protect the ‘many’. We thank you.
