South Korea finishes 2nd in 2019 Winter Universiade

The 2019 Krasnoyarsk Winter Universiade came to a close on Tuesday..... with South Korea finishing second overall behind Russia.

South Korea has finished 2nd in the overall rankings in the 29th Winter Universiade which took place in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk from March 2nd until this Tuesday. A total of 98 South Korean athletes took part in 4 different events taking home a total of 14 medals.

South Korea earned 9 medals in short track speed skating, 4 in skiing and snowboarding and 1 in curling. The medals came in more diverse events than at the 2017 Almaty Winter Universiade where South Korea placed 3rd overall taking home 21 medals in only short track and speed skating.

Speed skaters Kim A-lang and Hong Kyung-hwan both won two medals each in short track, once again showing South Korea is the strongest in the event.
In snowboarding, in the parallel slalom event, Jeong Hae-rim became the first South Korean female to win a gold medal in the event at the Winter Universiade.
As for curling, the women's curling team won a silver medal 6 years after South Korea's previous silver at the Trentino Winter Universiade in 2013.

After a successful 2019 Winter Universiade, the South Korean athletes will return home on Friday.
