President Moon Jae-in's state visit to Malaysia begins today.
The president will sit down with the leaders of the Southeast Asian country on Wednesday as he seeks promises on expanding bilateral cooperation on multiple fronts.
Our Shin Se-min -- who is traveling with the president -- files this report from Kuala Lumpur.

President Moon Jae-in's stay in Malaysia will open with an official welcoming ceremony.
Becoming the first foreign leader to be hosted by Sultan Abdullah since his ascension to the throne earlier this year,... President Moon will be greeted and welcomed by Malaysia's leader.
President Moon will then go into a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for talks on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Sitting down with the Sultan of Abdullah of Pahang and Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad,… President Moon will witness the signing of four memorandums of understanding,… which includes deals relating to the Fourth Industrial Revolution as well as Smart City development and cooperation in the halal industry.
On Tuesday, President Moon attended an event in Kuala Lumpur were he noted the Hallyu Wave and Malaysia's Halal Certification industry will bring about a synergy effect in various ways.

"If South Korea and Malaysia work together and jointly enter the market, it will become a new model of economic cooperation."

With the help of Malaysian government's world-exclusive Halal Certification process,... President Moon hopes to drive up bilateral trade between the two countries past last year's 18 billion U.S. dollars

"Hopping from one ASEAN member state to another,.. the South Korean leader is working to speed up his pivot to the region,... and diversify Korea's trade.
The focus here in Malaysia,... is high-tech and halal.
Shin Se-min, Arirang News, Kuala Lumpur."
