Kadir Jasin, the media advisor to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir, said that the government wants the media to be free and resposible with the setting up of the Malaysian Media Council.He said the nation cannot claim to be a progressive democratic nation if it did not have a media council, which is considered all over the world as a part of the democratic process.He was speaking at the National Consultation for a Malaysia Media Council event in Kuala Lumpur today.
