Should netas be earning respect or commanding it?

In Uttar Pradesh they want you to polish their boots, in West Bengal they want you to tie their laces and now in Maharashtra, Netas want you to stand up everytime they pass you and salute their glorious selves. Maharashtra government has gone to the extent of sending out a formal circular expressing their 6 point wishlist. Not only are the Bureaucrats expected to stand up and salute those elected to serve the public but they will also face action if they don't bow down to netas' wishes. The imperious circular has evoked sharp criticism from activists, who have termed the Maharashtra government's Diktat as feudal and illegal.
