The Mufti's are creating a problem for the Narendra Modi government again. This time BJP's alliance partner led by Mehbooba Mufti has called upon the government and the BJP to ensure that Pak agent Syed Ali Shah Geelani is granted a passport to travel abroad. She has also pleaded with the BJP to not succumb to Media and Congress pressure. She's pointed out that the UPA under the Congress in fact granted visas to Geelani and a slew of other separatists to travel abroad. While the BJP has steadfastly opposed any move to grant Geelani a passport the government rather worryingly doesn't seem to be taking a similarly hard and uncompromising stand. In fact minister after minister who has been asked to take a position has either ducked or simply passed the buck. Their evasiveness is giving rise to speculation that the centre may once again put regional sensitivities and coalition compulsion over national interest
