#RapeInACab: MHA advises states to ban all unregistered, web-based cabs
  • 5 years ago
Provoked by the alleged rape of a 27-year-old woman by the cab driver of ride-sharing service, Uber, the Delhi government is reportedly planning a ban on all app-based cab service providers in the national capital.

"All other transport/taxi service providers through web-based technology, who are not recognised, are prohibited from providing such services in the NCT of Delhi to public till they get license/permission from the Transport Department," the government order said.

Over 20 cab services in the national capital, including Taxi-for-Sure, Ola, Quick Cabs, Delhi Cab, Wyn and Cosy, may now have to stop their services, leaving thousands of drivers without work and causing major inconvenience to commuters. The Home Ministry has also called on all the states and Union Territories to consider banning unregistered internet-based cab services.
