13 year old tortured at a remand home in Bangalore

The 13-year-old boy who survived inhumane torture at the government remand home (Minor boy brutally beaten at govt home, BM, Aug 21) was in there for less than 24 hours. But memories of his hellish experience — multiple beatings with a PVC pipe, cleaning of dirty toilets under duress, and forced crawling around a corridor on his knees — would probably stay with him for life. The gritty fighter is now recovering at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health in Hombegowda Nagar, from where he gave a first person account

After attending school near Yeshwantpur on Tuesday, he had spent some time roaming around with his friends. He was feeling a little lost of late. Probably instability at home, with his father leaving them, and mother losing her job recently, was behind his difficult time at school. After missing classes for five days the previous week, his mother — who worked as a security guard — was summoned to school by the authorities for counselling. On Tuesday, he attended school, but still couldn't help drifting. BM had reported his horrific experience on Thursday when reports were just trickling in. But after meeting him at the Child Health Institute, we now have a fuller picture.
