Gaza crisis to be discussed in parliament today

The government has decided that silence is the best policy.

At least when it comes to Gaza

Sushma Swaraj has written to Hamid Ansari, the Rajya Sabha chairman requesting that a proposed discussion on Gaza be "de-listed".

As is usually the case the pundits are all whispering and pointing fingers, calculating the domestic fallout. Was even listing the discussion the sign of an inexperienced ministry still learning the ropes? Or as a government source tells "Is it mistake or mischief?" "Mischief" as in a way to put the new government in a tight spot. Swaraj claimed her ministry's consent had not been taken before scheduling the discussion. Sources said junior Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prakash Javadekar had conveyed the government's "nod" to the Business Advisory Committee of the Rajya Sabha after getting Arun Jaitley's okay.
