Delhi 'dilutes' UN censure on Sri Lanka

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday met Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa, but didn't disclose which way New Delhi would vote on the UN resolution seeking an international probe into human rights violations during the war against LTTE. Any substantive aspect of the sensitive issue was not discussed as the two leaders met on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC summit here, a day after the draft UN resolution was released.

Briefing reporters, external affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said Singh told Rajapaksa that India had just seen the UNHRC resolution on Lanka which has "important implications" for both countries. "So, the PM said the two countries would keep in touch in the coming days," he said.
