Cultural terrorism continues over Park street rape film in West Bengal

The ghost of the Park Street rape case continues to haunt Tollywood, with yet another film on the subject hitting a brick wall. The censor board on Monday raised several objections to the movie 'Park Street' and sent it to the revision committee.

The film, starring Dolon Roy, Pamela, Firdaus, Amitabha and Sudip Mukherjee, is directed by Partho Mukherjee, who had played the child's character in the Tanuja-Utpal Dutt-Ranjit Mullick film 'Lal Kothi' (1978).

Agnidev Mitra's 'Teen Kanya' had faced similar objections, but scraped throu-gh to reach the theatres. But Mukherjee fears his film is in for tougher times. "The movie is on a sensitive subject and is a pretty bold attempt at highlighting the incident. No wonder the dialogues include certain profanities, which were necessary to add that touch of realism. But the reason the film was sent to the revision committee was not exactly that, though the jury did object to the language. There was an objection relating to a senior police officer's dialogues about political pressure. It was a necessary component of the script," he said. "Now it will go to the Haranath Chakraborty-led revision committee," he said
