Nandigram blowback: NewsX accesses details of CBI charge sheet in Nandigram case

The CPI-M today claimed a purported CBI charge-sheet submitted to the Haldia court last week had cleared the previous Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee government for the firing at Nandigram on 14 March, 2007 killing several people agitating against the state government's plan to set up a mega chemical hub there. Leader of the Opposition Dr Surja Kanta Mishra said the charge-sheet had squarely blamed then Opposition TMC for the trouble as the mob created a situation in which the police were forced to open fire.
Trinamul Congress all-India general secretary Mukul Roy said Dr Mishra's remarks showed the CPI-M was now admitting that the firing was justified, while the former chief minister's "public apology" for the firing was nothing but "a drama to hoodwink the people."
