India Debate: Is scale down in diplomatic ties the right way ahead?

The India-US spat over Devyani Khobragade has turned uglier. India has moved her to it's UN mission in New York, claiming it now gives her fuller immunity from US laws. The US is saying immunity cannot be retro-active.

But while the Government and Opposition in India is spewing nationlist sentiment - what about the 'substance' of the case? What about the case against the Indian diplomat for having allegedly broken US laws? Why are we focussing so much on the 'humiliation' of Devyani, rather than her breach of laws? And why are we so supportive of the diplomat against her fellow Indian - the maid, Sangeeta Richards? Do we have as many questions to answer, as the US? It may be politically incorrect, even uncomfortable, to raise these questions - but let's raise them!
