Protests in Jamia Millia Islamia over BJP leader Shazia Ilmi's 'triple talaq' issue

Amid the ongoing series of protests and students outrage in Ramjas College of Delhi University a fresh controversy started in Jamila Millia Islamia University on Wednesday where BJP leader Shazia Ilmi was invited to speak on 'Triple Talaq'. Later, after a series of protests, the organisers not only rescheduled the event, but also changed the list of speakers and removed Shazia Ilmi.

Shazia was scheduled to attend a seminar at Jamia University organised to discuss the controversial triple talaq issue on February 16.
The event was then rescheduled for February 28 and the list of speakers was changed by the organisers.

The organisers also changed the topic of the discussion from 'triple talaq' to empowering Muslim women.

Shazia, after the incident, said that she was victimised for political affiliations.Shazia is an alumnus ofJamila Millia Islamia University.

Earlier in the day, two members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) who were arrested by the police for violent attack inside Delhi University’s north campus have been sacked by the organisation.
