Cyclone Phailin weakens, 'heavy to very heavy rains' likely in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh

Cyclone Phailin, the most powerful storm India has faced in more than a decade, began to wane through Sunday morning, nearly 12 hours after it made landfall at the eastern port town of Gopalpur.
While strong winds and heavy rains continued to lash more than a 150-km stretch along the coastline, threatening flooding and inundation of low-lying villages, there were indications that the casualties might have been limited.

Trees uprooted by powerful winds killed five people in Odisha before Phailin, which means sapphire in Thai and was described as a category 4 storm on a scale of 1-5, hit late Saturday.
