NewsX: Madras University in 'textbooks' scam

Another scam is emerging that involves the University of Madras, this time for buying up to 10,000 textbooks for courses attended by just 100 students a year, most of which were bought for over Rs.5 crore during the tenure of G Thiruvasagam and are lying idle or being eaten by moths.
The Institute of Distance Education bought nearly 50,000 books from 2 Delhi publishers last November, for which the University syndicate has refused to approve payment.
Sources say the purchase was in violation of the university policy.
