NewsX: Amid continuing public outcry over the suspension of Durga Shakti Nagpal by the UP government, the Congress on Saturday was locked in a public spat after Sonia Gandhi weighed in for the young IAS officer asking Prime Minster Manmohan Singh to ensure that she was not harassed. " There is widespread concern because the officer, in the course of her public duties, was seen to be standing up to vested interests engaging in illegal activities," Sonia said, echoing the popular sympathy for Nagpal and refuting the UP government's claim that she had to be turfed out because her actions posed a threat to communal peace. " We must ensure that the officer is not unfairly treated," Sonia said, breaking free of the restraint that she had exercised in scrutinizing the UP government because of the need of SP's support in Parliament.
