Voting for the first of the five-phase assembly elections in Bihar has begun - polling is being held on 49 seats. The election - billed as the most crucial one in the state - witnesses the BJP and its allies making a bid to add the state to their swelling kitty, which already has Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. On the other side is the 'Grand Alliance' led by Nitish Kumar - who is seeking a third straight term as chief minister - the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Congress.
