NewsX: Operation Blue Star was an Army specific operation that was carried out from June 3 to 6 of 1984. It was a military operation ordered by Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister. Army was asked to remove Sikh separatists who were amassing weapons in the Golden Temple in Amritsar. The operation was launched in response to a deterioration of law and order in Punjab.
