Pro-Khalistan revival attempt by Pakistan continues, time for 'appeasement' over? Nation at 9

In 1978, Jarnail Bhindrawale caught the attention of the public when he delivered an angry sermon declaring that he won't allow Nirankaris to hold a convention. He threatened to cut them into pieces. 11 members of the Akhand Kirtani Jatha and 3 Nirankaris were killed in violent clashes led by Bhindranwale. Ever since he came to symbolise extremist, terrorist movements in Punjab backed by Pakistan, Bhindranwale became the face of the secessionist movement demanding Khalistan. The man who moved arms and ammunition into the holy shrine has come to be remembered as a martyr. For far too long, politics has allowed glorification of a man who was nothing short of a radical beast. 40 years later, as Pakistan once again hopes to create a second Bhindrawale by reviving the pro-Khalistani sentiment in Punjab. The time for appeasement is now over India must rise as one.
