NewsX: On Saturday, according to police, Khalid along with three other accused was taken from Lucknow jail to Faizabad court for hearing. On way back, in Barabanki he complained helplessness and chest pain before collapsing in the police van. He was rushed to the district hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Khalid's lawyer said that if he was unwell, police should not have brought him for hearing. The jail authorities, however, claimed that Khalid had no serious health problems.

Soon after the death, in view of protests and threat of politicisation of the matter, state government ordered two inquiries - administrative probe to be conducted by home secretary Rakesh and ADG Javed Akhtar and judicial probe by chief judicial magistrate of Faizabad district.
