Odisha, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and south interior Karnataka received excess rainfall to the tune of 20 per cent above normal. The southwest monsoon is likely to continue its active phase, especially over East and Central India, till July end and thereafter, the department has forecast.
The Met department has, meanwhile, stated that the first depression of this year formed over Odisha recently and its westerly movement has activated monsoon conditions over many parts of Central India.
Under its influence, the weekly rainfall for the country ending July 25 was above 24 per cent, which is highest of the season so far.
