2G spectrum auction begins today - NewsX

The government will today begin the auction for telecom spectrum through which it is hoping to meet Rs. 40,000 crore revenue target. The auction is for the airwaves or frequencies freed from the cancellation of 122 telecom licenses by the Supreme Court in February. These licences previously belonged to mainly eight companies. The auction is set to begin at 9 am this morning. Five companies are now in the fray and they are Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Vodafone India, Telenor and Videocon. These companies have expressed interest for various circles.
