Ex-Pune Police Commissioner threatens Outlook with defamation suit
  • 5 years ago
Former Pune Police Commissioner Gulabrao Pol today sent a legal notice to journalist Ashish Khaitan and Outlook Magazine editor Krishna Prasad threatning to file a Rs 100 crore defamation suit against the publication.

Addressing a joint press conference here today, Pol along with his lawyer Harshad Nimbalkar said that he had sent a legal notice seeking an apology within the 15 days, failing which he would file a defamation suit in the Pune Court.

'The allegation made by magazine against me is baseless, there was no 'planchet' (ouija board) used in the Dhabolkar murder investigation and we will file a defamation case seeking compensation of Rs 100 crore,'Pol stated.

The magazine had published a news article against Pol, alleging that he had hired a 'tantrik' to help investigate the murder of rationalist and anti-superstiton activist Narendra Dhabolkar.

Further, Pol has also threatened to file a criminal case against Khaitan and Prasad under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code, if they fail to tender a public apology in all leading newspapers across the country.

'That article (Outlook's) has damaged the reputation of a former Police Commissioner who has solved a number of sensational cases and put many criminals behind bars during his tenure. Khaitan and Prasad have published the article just to gain cheap publicity,' Nimbalkar alleged
