Haryana khaps meet today over early marriages for girls - NewsX

Haryana's Sarva Khap Jat Panchayat will be meeting in Sonipat to discuss the bizarre suggestion that the marriage age for girls be lowered...in order to curb rising incidents of rape in the state. The Khaps want boys and girls to be allowed to wed by the age of 16 years. The Khap Mahapanchayat's logic is very clear. Vulgarity in TV and films is leading to early puberty. It is also leading to immature youngsters indulging in rapes and gang-rapes. The Khaps say the solution is to marry them early and let them fulfill their physical desires legally.
