With one of the nation's biggest education scams sending ripples through the ruling BJP regime in Madhya Pradesh, Congress on Saturday launched a direct attack on the state's first family - Chief Minister's wife Sadhna Singh and their kin.

State Congress leaders alleged 19 candidates hailing from Sadhna Singh's native village Gondia in Maharashtra were appointed as constables in transport department after recommendations CM House.

This is the first time, Congress directly alleged involvement of chief minister Shivraj Singh's wife and his family in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam. The party unveiled a list of candidates who secured jobs through "high connections" in the government.

Congress spokesman K K Mishra alleged call location details show 139 phone calls were made by a woman from CM House to the main accused in the MPPEB scam - board's controller Pankaj Trivedi and systems analyst Nitin Mohindra. Both are in jail. "The chief minister needs to explain which woman official from CM House called Pankaj Trivedi and Nitin Mohindra 139 times and for what purpose," Mishra said.
