Speak out India is a NewsX special program which focuses on the main news event of the day. In this segment of Speak out India we focus on the hiked petrol prices. The Government today hiked petrol prices by Rs 7.50 a litre from midnight. The increase was on the cards with the rupee continuing its free fall against the US dollar. Earlier on Tuesday, Petroleum Minister S Jaipal Reddy had said that there was an immediate need to raise fuel prices, but refused to say when the hike would actually take place. But the Government has justified the move saying that petrol prices had been deregulated and that the decision taken was a tough one taken out of compulsion. So we ask - Is the government justified in hiking the price of petrol by Rs 7.50? India comments and shares its views at this NewsX special show Speak out India. Watch out.
