Govt's Air India bailout: 30,000cr biggest package in 3 years - NewsX
  • 5 years ago
The government yesterday approved a Rs 30,000 crore bailout for Air India despite several Cabinet ministers being skeptical of the move. The funds are proposed to be pumped in over the next nine years but there will be an immediate infusion of Rs 6,750 crore to meet the airline's working capital requirement. This is in addition to the equity infusion of Rs 3,200 crore that has already been done.
This is infact the fourth govt bailout for Air India since 2009, when it injected 5,500 cr to keep the airline flying. The next bailout package came in February 2010. It was followed by a 1,200 cr package in August last year. And now this one is the biggest yet, on the grounds that it was strongly needed to bail out the national carrier.
