Muzaffarnagar riots divide SP, Azam Khan faces heat for skipping National meet

Samajwadi Party battled a widening rift within as its top leaders met in Agra to strategise for the national elections, due by May. Azam Khan, who is also the Minority Affairs Minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, is not at the meeting, reportedly in protest against the riots in Muzaffarnagar that seared the western part of the state this weekend.
The death toll in the trouble-hit Muzaffarnagar district and adjoining towns in Uttar Pradesh rose to 40 on Wednesday morning, reports said. The district administration, meanwhile, announced a relaxation of four hours in the curfew, from 12 noon to 4 pm.
