The killer of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh will not be hanged on the 31st of March. Prolonged lobbying from several quarters and the Punjab Chief Minister himself taking up the clemency issue has led to the Centre staying the hanging of Balwant Singh Rajoana. Rashtrapati Bhawan has sent a letter to this effect to the Home Ministry. The Punjab Chief Minister cited the law that says execution cannot be carried out when a mercy petition is pending. Punjab deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal spoke exclusively to NewsX's Palak Sharma soon after Rajoana's hanging was stayed by the center. Watch this out.
